Where are we headed?

Glen is knee deep in his workshop, and I in wrapping things up: albums sent to clients, last minute meetings with bright eyed engaged couples ready to book their photog, and settling into my single parenting mode (less than 10 days left until I join Glen in Mumbai), and making lists of what I need to get & pack.

This one month creative sabbatical will start off this way… (or so I plan)

A: land in Bombay (Mumbai) after 14hr flight from JFK with the girlies, and meet our super hero who will rescue us at the airport (Glen).

B: Go to Goa (because my sister & brother said we must– going to visit Palolem), not sure if we’ll take an overnight train (8hrs) or fly - $160 for all four of us for one way, not bad. This is a touristy area which may cater to two little western girls who may need a friendly chicken sandwich rather than chickpeas with curry.

C: Bellary (psyched to visit family- wild– 31 years later- will see Aunties & Uncles and see what I learn about my past and our family)

D: Bangalore (more family & hopefully some fun shopping– my cousin is having a baby too!)

Then…. headed to Kerala (southern state) or somewhere really cool. Our thoughts: Backwaters of Kerala (it’s supposed to be beautiful), beaches of Kerala, go to Amma’s ashram, or there is also this really cool sustainable/ mindful community ( Auroville) or as always, we go with the flow.

I just heard that the plane has individual TVs, so hopefully the kids will be entertained. Food, on the other hand… I hear it is Indian & spicy. I know, I know, I am going to India, and yes, my kids don’t really like Indian food… oh, well.  We’ll see what they are going to eat for one month. :-)

Without travel, this family ceases to exist. Thank you life for this gift.

Traveling and seeing how people live all over the world is the BEST education any child can have. Keep it up!

    Lovely GADS,

I can feel the energy of this journey, as it has already begun, and I get ‘excitement’ flowing through me! What a lovely feeling!!

Sounds like the food part of the journey will be a book all on it’s own! :)

    Love you all!

Can’t wait to hear how it goes!!

When I’m taking the kids on a long flight, I usually get them some small gifts… toys, a new coloring book & crayons, finger puppets, whatever… and I dole them out, one at a time, so every few hours they get a new little something. I’m amazed at how long a toy can occupy them, just because it’s new.

Hope it goes well! Now you’re next trip… visit your ’sister’ in Hungary!! :-)

    Love you!!

Josslyn: I don’t know if you remember on my 30 seconds of fame on the NPR plug for this blog, http://www.onpointradio.org/shows/2008/06/20080613_b_main.asp... but I said that I wanted my children to be Citizens of the World- it’s important to us, so that’s why we make the effort to see other possibilities & ways of living. Thanks for connecting

Susan: Excitement is the word for me right now. Even the girls who were totally boycotting this month long trip. They wanted Disney and we explained that we are not Disney-type. We’ll go there some day, but I want them to have perspective of the world- to see more of the rest of the world before the fall into the Capitalism Mecca.

Angie: Hungary is so on my radar. ;-)

    Dearest Asha and family,

I saw that you refer to yourselves as “the GADS” in this post: Glen, Asha, Dharma, and Sarada. In the dictionary, the definition of a gad is “to be on the go without a specific aim or purpose.” Well, I just about blew the walls out of my little studio apartment when I made the connection, my laughter was so vast! And that phrase … “gad about” … seems appropriate, too. I just love when life plays these little games with names. It delights me so! So you are the GADS! And the names you chose for your lives this time around stand for this thing that you mention you can’t live without!

Very interesting I’d say. And DIVINE!

Love to you all … and happy gadding about!
